It would inarguably be several orders more work to create a 'remaster' at this point than it would a remake. Third, and following from that same point - the codebase is old and makes several low level assumptions that have been making life difficult for modders for literally 20 years at this point (as mentioned previously - 24 fps framerate animations, hard fov limitations, hardcoded AI etc.) This suggests the development team and their employee profile is equipped to produce this kind of work, and not the very different beast that would be reverse engineering decades old C and trying to wrap that around modern assets. Secondly, Vicarious Visions have recently released two very successful remakes. I thought I saw that Schreier specifically clarified somewhere that it was a remake and not a remaster, but I am not finding it right now. The Actugaming (sp?) article from last year, and more recently the Jason Schreier leaks have used the word Remake rather than remaster.
